An Iranian sports photographer was detained on his arrival at Cairo airport and deported from Egypt.
Ashkan Mehryar was on his way to cover the FIBA U19 World Cup in the Egyptian capital, where the Iranian team have been grouped with the U.S., Angola and Italy.
“The Egyptian officials detained me in the airport and then told me my passport needs security code but my passport is valid,” Mehryar said.
“They detained me for hours and interrogated me and took my mobile. Finally, I was deported from Egypt to Iran,” he added.
It seems the Iranian photographer was deported due to political reasons while sport has nothing to do with politics.
