Kate Middleton Photographs Princess Charlotte’s Ninth Birthday Portrait

Happy birthday to Princess Charlotte.

Earlier today, the Prince and Princess of Wales released a portrait to mark their daughter’s ninth birthday. In it, she poses in a garden by a hedge filled with flowers. She wears a red cardigan, a blue shirt, and a denim skirt while smiling at the camera. “Happy 9th Birthday, Princess Charlotte!” the family captioned the photograph on social media, punctuating it with a cake emoji. “Thank you for all of the kind messages today.”

The portrait was taken by her mother, Kate Middleton, at their home of Adelaide Cottage in Windsor. The Princess of Wales often goes behind the camera for these milestone moments—just over a week ago, she also photographed her youngest child, Prince Louis, for his sixth birthday.

However, back in March, the princess came under fire for improperly photoshopping family images. A portrait she took of her family for U.K. Mother’s Day received a “kill notice” from AP Images due to several noticeable editing errors. “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing,” she said in a statement. “I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day.”

With this new picture of Charlotte, it seems she is moving on from the scandal and continuing business as usual, even following the princess’s announcement last month that she was undergoing preventative treatment for cancer. She is taking a break from the spotlight to take care of her own health as well as spend time with her three young children.
