In recent years, Meghan has spoken of her decision to adopt  Bogart. She revealed it was Ellen DeGeneres who convinced her to adopt the animal after she bumped into the TV host in a shelter.

Meghan often used the #adoptdontshop hashtag in her Instagram posts and she chose animal welfare charity Mayhew as one of her first patronages during her time as a royal.

The then-actress would regular share snaps on her Instagram as she snuggled up on her sofa with the animal.

And when Meghan first moved to the UK in 2017, news broke that her dog Bogart hadn't joined her.

In her engagement interview, Meghan revealed to the BBC's Mishal Husain: 'One [dog] is now staying with very close friends and my other, little Guy, he's in the UK, he's been here for a while.'

The former actress, who lived in Canada while filming Suits, made the heartbreaking decision to leave Bogart after moving to the UK to start her new life, because the pet was too old to fly overseas.

The Prince's communication secretary Jason Knauf made a statement saying Bogart was living 'with friends'.

She took Bogart's 'best friend' Guy with her when she moved into Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace with Prince Harry, and the couple are believed to have adopted black Labrador Oz in August 2018.

In June 2019, Meghan also wrote about the 'life-changing joy' of adopting a pet as she urged people to support the Mayhew Animal Home, in a foreword to the charity's annual report.

'As a proud rescue dog owner, I know from personal experience the joy that adopting an animal into your home can bring,' she penned. 'The role that we, as people, play in rehoming and rescuing these animals is vital, but the role of organisations such as Mayhew is unparalleled.'

The mother-of-two went on to urge readers to support the animal welfare charity in 'whatever way they can' - be it through adoption, volunteering, donation or spreading the word.

When Meghan and Harry moved back to Canada in 2019, there was some speculation the Duchess could be reunited with the pooch.

However speaking to The Sun, a source had claimed that she was unlikely to take the Labrador-shepherd mix back, even though she loved him and Guy - who is still a part of the family - referring to them as 'my loves' and 'my boys'.

The insider said: 'Meghan adored that dog but the decision not to take him back was based on Bogart's relationship with Harry.'

The informant added: 'Of course, her staff in the UK who knew about her decision found her statement quite strange, but they accepted it at face value because Meghan knows her dogs.'

The couple now have three dogs; a black Labrador and two beagles.

Earlier this year, Harry and Meghan adopted one of 4,000 beagles that were rescued from an animal testing centre in the US - a seven-year-old dog named Mamma Mia.

The pup is now living with the pair and their children Archie and Lilibet at their $14m, seven-acre mansion in Montecito, California. The family also have chickens, which were allegedly rescued from a factory farm.

Mamma Mia was one of 4,000 that had been bred at the Envigo breeding and research facility in Virginia.

Elsewhere, more hints of what the documentary - set for release next week - could include were shown through black-and-white photograph of the titular pair with the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Within the video, an image showcased Kate and Prince William, both 40, alongside the couple, as well as King Charles, 74, then the Prince of Wales, and Queen Consort Camilla, 75, at the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey in 2019.

'No one sees what's happening behind closed doors,' Harry is heard saying, shortly before the photo is shown to viewers.

Kate seems to feature prominently in the picture, with one Twitter user commenting: 'Omg that photo of Kate glaring into the camera from the Commonwealth ceremony.'

During the engagement in 2019, the sister-in-laws shared a friendly greeting as they took their seats, amid rumours of a frosty relationship.
