Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Southampton on Tuesday kept alive their chances of winning the Premier League this season ahead of their final match on Sunday, while their quadruple hopes also remain intact with two games to go.

Mohamed Salah didn't feature in the St. Mary triumph due to injury but Jurgen Klopp has now been urged to rethink the Egyptian's contract demands, as Liverpool are set to rival Manchester United for a player who operates in a similar position.

Here are Mirror Football's latest Liverpool headlines.

Klopp urged to rethink Salah contract

Mohamed Salah remains locked in talks with Liverpool club chiefs and reports earlier this season claimed he is seeking a weekly wage of at least £300,000, which the prolific forward believes reflects his importance, as his current deal enters its final year.

But Jamie Redknapp has no doubt Virgil van Dijk is the most important player in the Liverpool squad and therefore deserves to earn more than anyone else, including Mohamed Salah, of which he is the club's highest earner on £220,000 per week after he signed a four-year extension at Anfield last summer.

Redknapp said: "I'm sure Mohamed Salah's getting paid or been offered a vast amount of money. But sometimes you have to think, 'Well if we give him that much, then what does Virgil van Dijk want?' Now, Virgil van Dijk for me is the most important player at the club. I wouldn't give anyone any more money than him. That's how I see it. I know strikers should get more in terms of that's always been the way it is but whatever Virgil gets, he should be on the most. He's the most important one."

Liverpool rival Man Utd for “top class” Ajax transfer

Liverpool will go head-to-head with Manchester United for the signature of Ajax winger Antony, according to reports in his native Brazil, despite having already signed Luis Diaz in January and having a plethora of options in those positions.

UOL claims the two English giants have each made a 'concrete' approach to land the talented 22-year-old, who has impressed under incoming United boss Erik Ten Hag at the Johan Cruyff Arena this season. He has scored 12 goals and provided 10 assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.

Liverpool have held a long-term interest in Antony after Jurgen Klopp made 'frequent follow-ups of the player's evolution' since his breakthrough in Brazil. Mohamed Salah still has not signed a new contract, while the futures of Takumi Minamino, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane remain unclear.

Jurgen Klopp delivers Joe Gomez injury update

Jurgen Klopp is optimistic Joe Gomez's injury isn't as bad as first feared, after the defender limped off against Southampton on Tuesday night with what looked like a nasty leg injury after an attempted challenge late in the first half. Gomez remained in the match until half time before making way at the break for Jordan Henderson, with James Milner moving to right-back.

Liverpool fans were worried Gomez, who has been injury-prone during his time at Anfield, would be on the sidelines yet again but Klopp revealed he wasn't in too much pain and was in good spirits in the dressing room at full-time.

He said: "I hope we were lucky. He has pain but not too much. He got a real shock to the system. But he's sitting in the dressing room and was in a good mood when I spoke to him."
