The singing and dancing performance, the tourism video, the exhibition of local folk culture, and the presentation on what the destination can offer a couple on their honeymoon drew a sizeable audience. The most compelling characteristics of the city as a romantic coastal destination were highlighted to each of the attendees. On the heels of having successfully hosted the Miss World Final six times, the famous pageant returns to Sanya again this year, further enhancing the city’s position as an ideal destination for the event. Sanya has also taken advantage of its long list of honeymoon travel resources to, over the years, continuously roll out a variety of travel packages and services for newlyweds, leading to rapid growth in the local honeymoon travel market. Preliminary government data shows that, in 2016, approximately 300,000 couples sought the services of the city’s wedding photography firms, while more than 10,000 couples chose the city for that all important post-nuptial getaway. Sanya is on a fast growth track to becoming a leading wedding and honeymoon destination.

A promotional meeting was held during the 2017 Sanya Celebration to give Scandinavian travel agencies an illustrated presentation on Sanya’s tropical tourism accommodations, which include an array of well-known Chinese and international hotel brands, each highlighting their unique Oriental features. A series of signature tourism packages catering variously to the whole family, to newlyweds, as well as to lovers of golf and aquatic sports, are rolled out. Currently, Sanya has scheduled flight services to and from 20 international destinations and is home to over 40 international hotel brands. Travellers from 26 countries, including Denmark, now enjoy visa-free access to Sanya where tourism facilities, including hotels, places of interest, guide services, eating establishments and shopping outlets in addition to a range of public services, have been upgraded to meet the diversified needs and expectations of travellers from all over the world. In addition, Sanya’s tour guides have each been given extensive training which has upgraded their English skills in a move to facilitate their communications with international visitors so that they can move about Sanya with ease while having access to quality travel services that make them feel at home. With the evolution of new forms of travel, including sea cruises and yacht tours, low-altitude sightseeing flights, tax-free shopping, wellness travel and excursions that focus on learning about the world’s many cultures, Sanya has constantly increased its appeal to international travellers.
